MEDIA SLAVERY
There is a growing epidemic is this country. One that is so influential that it is changing our past, redirecting our present, and shaping our future into one that was thought only possible in science fiction films. We are living in the era in which media is beginning to control our thoughts and perception in everything from world issues to personal wardrobes. America is slowly giving up her personal will, rights, good judgments, and freedom to the media masterminds that are manipulating us through television, radio, and internet. There is a plan for us as Americans to become the back bone of the same special interest groups that our fore fathers fought so hard to free us from. We are turning our back on the very principles that founded this great nation. What happened to "One nation under God" and "in God we trust"? How is it that in a country that was founded on morals and principles with the hope for a better tomorrow, there is so much injustice, transgression, and flat out sin? In an age of so much technology we can't even control our own children from acting like animals? Even our governmental leaders are less credible today than 50 years ago but there is a bigger issue at hand.
If you're over the age of 25 you might remember a time that seemed less chaotic. Back when your neighbors where like an extension to the family and when neighborhoods were a community of friends that was willing to help out one another. What happened to those times? How did we stray so far away in such a short period of time? Welcome to the age of technology and a new kind of control; Media Slavery. Why do we not feel safe in those once secured neighborhoods? Could it be that all we hear when we turn on the daily news is the number of shootings or robberies or kidnappings or other senseless crimes? Why are the news networks so focused on showing us the absolute worst of humanity? Maybe that's what it takes to "customize" our thinking so when the time comes we will act based on our fears. It worked for President Bush's reelection campaign giving proof America is truly vulnerable.
So what does it take to "customize" public opinions? First it takes complete access to the entire public. Who do you know in this country that DOES NOT have a television, radio, internet, or a cell phone with all three sources? Can you imagine living without them for a day? How about a week? We have become so dependant on these items that we do not recognize the sacrifices that we make to use them in an ever changing world. Next you need to expose the masses to the ideas you are trying to endorse. By the constant programming the sub conscious mind media influences us through the repetition of ideas that are supported by those who wants it accepted. Here are a few examples; at one time in American history open homosexuality would have never been accepted. It was thought to be morally wrong and a condemnation to one's soul. But through programs on television and popularity on the internet, these actions have found a place in mainstream America. Now don't take this out of text by saying I'm against homosexuality, I'm just giving an example of how through media it is now more accepted in America. In the year 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts there was a trial against a nine and eleven year old girl that was thought to be witches. All it took was a display of erratic behavior to convince the town they were possessed by Satan. There was a trial and they, along with twenty four others were killed during the hysteria that followed. Fast forward to today and you will find open witch craft for the masses to enjoy. With movies like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Chronicles of Narnia and a host of others, the alluring world of witch craft is now a dream for millions of our children. A couple of decades ago it would have been unthinkable to hear about a child murdered at school by another student. Now it's like, "Again, what's wrong with these kids"? Constant exposure to loose media desensitizes us to situations that we should see as an absolute wrong and to get involve to correct them.
So what is the reason for all this negative media exposure? That is the question that I hope the answer I give you will serve as a wake up call to your own personal beliefs. Earlier I briefly mentioned how President Bush was reelected by using media to scare us into voting him back into office even though we knew he was going to stay the course and put our soldiers at risk a quagmire. The technique is called scare tactics. When we are afraid of an overwhelming situation we tend to trust some one whom we fill is confident enough to handle the job. Normally we will give that person the tools and resources that they will need to get positive results. But most importantly we will give that person the authority to do what ever it takes. (Remember the patriot act? It was signed twice.) The way society is headed, we will eventually come to a point where something drastic has to change in order to have peace in our cities, on our streets, in our homes. The questions are what rights and privileges will we sacrifice to achieve it and who will we give that power to?
We each have the responsibility to make sure that we do not yield too much authority to the media. It never hurts to question what you are seeing or hearing against your own knowledge to create a checks and balance system in order to keep every one honest. Try to stay focused on the facts of life instead of the hype that's living. We as Americans can slowly create a greater voice and regain authority over our destiny if we just follow the facts and examples of an earlier generation. Learn from the past and we will understand the future. We can do this, we have to.
